An Omaha Primer
AN OMAHA PRIMER
Plans are set for the 28th BAVA reunion in Omaha NE.
The selected hotel is the Comfort Inn. The total remodeled hotel has been selected by many groups this year, ours is among seven other military reunions that have already booked for 2018. The price per night is under $100.00 a double (inclusive). Breakfast is included in our own meeting room and they have a large bar and great restaurant for your convenience.
We’ll register on Wednesday September 26 with a welcome reception that evening.
Thursday we’re off to the SAC (Strategic Air Command) museum with lots of aircraft, displays, and knowledgeable volunteers plus a snack bar rest area. We’ll lunch before returning to the hotel. That evening we will go the Omaha German American Society Club House for a fine authentic German meal, entertainment by a band, singers, dancers and lots of laughs.
Friday morning off to Father Flanagan’s Boys Town. It’s come a long way since Spencer Tracy changed the path of Mickey Ronnie in the 1950’s B&W movie. Now a most beautiful campus will greet you, with over 600 students, boys and girls, a high school, interesting museum and a bus tour before lunch in the school cafeteria. Lots to photograph.
Friday night you’re on your own with shuttles to the Old Market for some of the city’s best restaurants and a great Ice Cream shop.
Prior to the Banquet on Saturday evening you’ll have free time to see other sights in the city, even back to Old Market. Ollie the trolley shuttle will be running for your use. My planning has two major considerations. One the walking and cost is second. A third is air fares, they’re lower on Tuesday and Sunday and many BAVA Brats won’t have to miss work on Monday.
Don’t hesitate to save the dates of Wednesday Sept 26th thru Saturday Sept 29th.

It is with great reluctance that the Board of Directors of the Berlin Airlift Veterans Association (BAVA) has decided to cancel the planned 2020 reunion in Wichita KS. The impact of the Covid-19 virus on the country is felt nationwide with most activities cancelled. As this is written in late June the country is slowly coming back after almost three months of lock-down, however the risk is still prevalent. Our veterans and most of our members are in the high vulnerability category.
